Multi-axis Machining
Multi-axis machining refers to machines that can perform operations
along more that one axis. CNC lathes, mills, turning and machining
centers are designed for multi-axis machining. Conventional or lathes and
mills typically machine on one axis only. Multiple turrets, spindles and
tooling options enable numerous machining operations using the same set-up,
which utlimately lowers the cost per peice for multiple quantity orders.
CNC machining centers usually have four axis: Table x, y, and z and milling head
z. Five and six axis machines have an extra axis for a
horizontal milling head.
